The process of determining the best method for meeting your organization’s performance needs is complex, but SANDirect’s cost-effectiveness formula can help. We recommend that you take notes for each step of the formula and keep the numbers handy during your decision-making process. You may find it necessary to contact a data storage expert at 866-463-3372 for assistance.

Determine the IOPS your application requires.
Determine the storage capacity your organization requires.
Calculate the cost of purchasing adequate HDDs to attain the necessary IOPS.
Calculate the cost of purchasing adequate SSDs to attain the necessary capacity.
If the cost of HDD in #3 is more than the cost of SSD in #4, SSD may be your best choice.
If, on the other hand, the cost to purchase SSD is greater than to purchase HDD, you may want to consider a combination SSD and HDD system, or stick with HDD for now.
