When thinking about data backup technology, RAID or mirroring might come to mind first, as well as tapes and other local media options. For non-critical data though, cloud storage backup has become a viable option, primarily due to its convenience. Just set up the schedule for a local client app to run and your data is backed up to a remote service provider who typically charges by the user or gigabyte. After that initial setup, there is no user involvement at all, unless you need to recover something. It's that simple.
For critical data, cloud storage backup is still an option, you will likely be limited by your recovery time though. This will be determined by how fast a large chunk of data can be transferred back to you over Your WAN connection when you need to recover lost data. Additionally, very sensitive data may bring with it security restrictions that cannot be accommodated by cloud solutions.
For regular backups of something like a remote office or home-based worker, consider the viability of backups to the cloud.
